Troubleshooting

My last edit disappeared after I closed the tab.

There is no Save button — saving is automatic — but when a field saves depends on the tab. On Basics, Narrative and Skills cards, the only real gap is typing and then closing the browser tab within about a second and a half; those fields also save immediately when you leave a field, switch tabs, or minimize the window. On every other tab, a text field saves only when you click or tab out of it. Watch for the "Saving…" → "Saved" pill before you close.

Detail

How saving actually works. On Basics, Narrative and Skills cards, typing schedules a save about 1.5 seconds after you stop. Leaving a field saves immediately. Switching tabs, minimizing the browser, or navigating away all flush pending edits too.

On Experience, Gaps, Values, FAQ, AI Instructions and Portfolio there is no save-while-typing: a text field saves when you click or tab out of it, and dropdowns and checkboxes save the instant you change them. What are the nine profile tabs, and do I have to fill them all? lists the saving rules tab by tab.

So the failure window is narrow and specific. On Basics, Narrative or Skills, you typed, and the tab closed before that 1.5-second timer elapsed. On the other tabs, you typed and closed the tab while your cursor was still in the field.

The habit worth keeping. Click an empty part of the page after your last edit, then glance at the pill before closing. It appears near the field and fades once the save completes.

Recovering the edit. There is no recovery for an edit that never reached the server — retype it. Reload the page first so you are looking at the stored state rather than a stale view, then check what is actually missing before you redo more than you need to.

One exception to automatic saving: the public-URL editor on the Basics tab has an explicit Save URL button. That field does not autosave, by design, because changing your URL is rate-limited.

⚠ If you saw "Save failed" on a social-link field, that is a different problem and the edit genuinely did not save. See the LinkedIn article below.
