What this screen is
Practice for this role turns one of your job fit checks into a mock interview for that job. The AI interviewer works from the job description and your public profile and asks about the gaps the check named. The debrief then tells you how ready you are for the role: "Ready", "Close" or "Not yet".
It is part of Pro, whether your Pro is paid, complimentary or earned through Refer & Earn. You can start it in two places:
- From the result of a check you have just run on Check a Job Fit
- From the Practice start screen, by choosing "For a role I’m applying for" and picking one of your recent checks
Everything else about the session works as in any practice interview: you choose the stage, difficulty, level and interviewer style, give consent, and talk with the interviewer. Voice interviews and practice (Pro) covers those steps.
Starting from a fit check

When a check finishes on Check a Job Fit: run the Honest Fit Assessment on yourself, the result shows "What to do next" (sometimes headed "Recommendation"), then a card headed "Next step", then "Confidence". The card says: "A mock interview built from this check: the AI interviewer works from the job description and your public profile, and the debrief says how ready you are for this role."
The button depends on the verdict:
| Verdict | Button |
|---|---|
| Strong fit | "Practice for this role" |
| Worth a conversation | "Practice for this role — rehearse the gaps" |
| Probably not your person | "Rehearse how you’d address the gaps" (an outlined button) |
The card appears only on a check you have just run. Your past checks, listed in AI Activity, have no button; to practice for one of them, use the start screen’s list (below).
On Free, the card is labeled "Pro feature" and reads "Practice for this role is included in Pro", with the same line and a "See Pro" button that opens the pricing page.
The start screen with a role

The button opens the start screen, "New practice interview", with "For a role I’m applying for" already selected. You still choose the "Interview stage", "Difficulty", "Level of the role" and "Interviewer style". The stage sets the length of the session, and the start screen shows each stage’s length.
Below the menus, a "Target role" card shows:
- The role, taken from the first line of the job description you pasted, and the check’s verdict
- How many of the check’s gaps and strengths the interviewer works from, alongside the job description and your public profile
- When some or all of the check’s gap and strength names are not used, a line that ends "the interviewer works from those sources instead."
- The line "AI-generated assessment — decision support, not a decision. May contain mistakes."
The consent step follows, as it does before every session, and then "Begin practice interview".
Tip: the role line is the first line of what you pasted into Check a Job Fit. Paste the job title first, and your checks are easy to tell apart here and in your practice history.
If a check can no longer set up an interview (its job description has been deleted or is about to be, or its result is incomplete), the start screen shows an amber notice that explains why and ends "No minutes were used." The screen then opens on "One interview stage": choose "For a role I’m applying for" to see your other checks and pick one.
Choosing a role on the start screen

You can also start from Practice. Click "Start practice interview", then choose "For a role I’m applying for". A list headed "Practise for a role you’ve checked" shows up to ten of your most recent job fit checks that can still set up an interview, each with its role line, its verdict and the date. Only checks you ran from Check a Job Fit are listed, not assessments run on your public profile page.
Click a check to set up the interview. The "Target role" card and the consent step then appear; until you pick a role, the consent step stays hidden.
With no check to offer, the list says "Run a job fit check first and the role appears here, ready to practise for." and links to Check a Job Fit.
What the interviewer works from
- The job description you pasted into the check
- The public fields of your profile
- The check’s verdict and the names of its gaps and strengths, except any the "Target role" card says are not used
Your private notes are not part of it. The Privacy Policy, §6 "Voice data", sets out what is sent for a session like this and to whom.
On the start screen the mode is described as: "Practise against one of your job fit checks. The interviewer works from that role and the gaps the check named." Expect questions on those gaps, and have a real example ready.
The readiness read
A session started from a fit check gets a "Readiness for this role" section in its debrief, both right after the interview and on the saved debrief:
- A label: "Ready", "Close" or "Not yet". Never a score
- "Priority drill": the one thing to rehearse next
- "Blind spot": something you did or missed without noticing
- "Gaps you addressed" and "Gaps still open": the gaps the debrief lists, each with a tag and a note
A very short interview gets a line instead: "This interview was too short to judge readiness for this role. A longer session gives the debrief more to work with." Your practice debrief: readiness, question by question, and practice-only questions (Pro) explains each part, and the rest of the debrief.
In your practice history

In "Past debriefs" on the Practice screen, a role session carries a chip reading "Practice for this role", the role, the check’s verdict and, once the debrief gives one, "Readiness:" with its label. When any session in the list was started from a fit check, the line "AI-generated assessment — decision support, not a decision. May contain mistakes." appears once under the "Past debriefs" heading. The saved debrief’s header repeats the chip with the role and the check’s verdict, and that line; its readiness appears further down, in "Readiness for this role".
If the job description is no longer available, the chip shows "Role checked" and the date of the check instead of the role.
When a role session is deleted
A session started from a fit check is deleted, transcript and debrief together, with that check’s job description. The Privacy Policy sets out when, in §6 "Voice data" and §8 "Data retention". You can delete it sooner: deleting the session’s transcript on Settings → Account data & privacy: export, voice transcripts, delete account deletes its debrief too.
Finishing
- You ran a job fit check on a real job ad and read the gaps it named
- You started the practice from that result, or picked the check on the start screen
- You chose a stage that matches where you are in that hiring process
- You read "Readiness for this role", including the gaps still open
- You worked on the priority drill before practicing for the same role again
