Voice interviews and practice (Pro)

Applies to: Pro (paid, complimentary, and reward-grant — allowances differ, see below) · Last updated: 2026-08-18

Voice is the fastest way to fill the narrative parts of your profile — talking about yourself is easier than writing about yourself. Pro includes two voice surfaces:

  • Build by voice — a spoken interview with the AI that drafts profile content for your review.
  • Practice — mock interviews with an AI debrief afterwards.

Voice is optional. Everything on Profiled can be done by text, and your profile isn’t disadvantaged if you never use voice.

On Free, voice isn’t included: the Practice page shows what it does alongside the upgrade option, and voice sessions can’t be started.

Before your first session: the consent step

First you’ll test your microphone — speak briefly to confirm you can be heard; a live level meter responds. Then two consent choices:

  • Voice recording. The product’s own commitment, word for word: "Your audio streams directly from your browser to our voice provider and is never stored on Profiled’s servers." Profiled also commits to three things about voice: no voiceprints are created, your voice is never used to identify you, and no AI is used to infer emotions from your voice.
  • Transcript storage — so you can review what was captured. Transcripts are kept for 12 months and you can delete them any time, individually or all at once, from Settings → Data.

Then Begin interview.

Building your profile by voice

The flow is Consent → Interview → Review. During the interview, a status bar shows the connection state and a timer; your words appear in a live transcript, and the AI asks follow-ups to draw out depth. Click End interview when done.

Then the review: the AI proposes a set of changes — "Review what we captured" — each with a checkbox and a New / Updated / Unchanged badge. Nothing is written until you commit, and you can uncheck anything. Voice can fill your title, location, elevator pitch, the narrative fields, experiences (including private context), skills, gaps, AI instructions, and your must-haves and dealbreakers. Expect to polish wording in the tabs afterwards.

Minutes: how the metering works

How you got ProMinutes per monthTop-ups
Paid Pro40Yes — 15 minutes for $5
Complimentary Pro (invite)40Yes
Reward-grant Pro (referral months)20No

The details that prevent surprises:

  • No single session exceeds 20 minutes, for anyone, regardless of balance. Your 40 monthly minutes are an allowance across sessions, not a session length.
  • A session reserves its minutes up front. When you start a session, the full grant for that session (up to 20 minutes) is deducted immediately. If you end early, the unused portion is returned automatically — but only after the session’s original time window has fully passed, so a quick two-minute session can show your balance down by the full grant for a little while. It comes back on its own; nothing is lost.
  • One live session at a time. Starting a second concurrent session is refused.
  • What "month" means depends on your Pro flavour. On paid Pro it’s your billing period. On complimentary or reward-grant Pro it’s a rolling 30-day window.
  • The sidebar voice minutes widget shows remaining/total. When you’re low, paid Pro sees the top-up option; a reward-grant Pro sees the upgrade path instead (top-ups aren’t available on reward-grant Pro).
  • Top-up minutes don’t roll over. They’re valid for the period you buy them in: unused top-up minutes expire at the end of that period, and they lapse if your Pro subscription ends. Buy them when you’re about to use them, not in advance.

Practice interviews

Practice sessions use the same voice mechanics and the same minutes. Run a mock interview, get an AI debrief afterwards, and use what it surfaces to strengthen the corresponding parts of your profile. Your practice activity also feeds the readiness view in Candidate Insights.

Troubleshooting

  • "Could not access your microphone" — allow mic access in your browser’s site settings, then rerun the mic test.
  • Out of minutes — paid and complimentary Pro can buy a 15-minute top-up for $5; reward-grant Pro can’t top up, but the allowance refreshes with the rolling window. The session-start screen shows your allowance, used and remaining minutes.
  • Balance looks too low right after a short session — that’s the up-front reservation described above; the unused minutes return automatically.
